Maritime industry’s big names assemble for Shipping and the Law 2014

SHIPPING and THE LAW 2014 ITNaples, Italy, October 3, 2014. Some of the biggest names in European and international shipping will gather in Naples next week for the fifth annual Shipping and the Law conference organised by Studio Legale Lauro.

Participants include leading Italian and international shipowners, as well as key players from sectors including banking, chartering, hull and P&I insurance, maritime law and arbitration.

New for 2014, a pre-conference workshop, ‘Eco-Ships: Investing in New Technologies’ sees shipowners, vendors and regulators consider the pros and cons of this controversial subject. Presentations are followed by a panel, chaired by Michele Francioni, CEO of Rina Services and including a contribution from Emanuele Lauro, CEO of Scorpio Group.

The main conference includes opening keynote speeches from Emanuele Grimaldi,  Managing Director of Grimaldi Group, John C. Lyras, of the Union of Greek Shipowners.
Vincenzo Camporini, Past Chief of Defence General Staff for Italy will provide a geo-political outlook while Marco Del Panta, Principal Director for Migration Issues at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will discuss Italian and EU migration policy.

Sessions during the day include input from some of shipping’s biggest international names. Richard Fulford-Smith, Managing Director RS Platou co-chairs a new session ‘Global challenges and strategic decisions in the current shipping markets’, with contributions from Vincenzo Petrone, President Fincantieri, Jeffrey Pribor, Head of Maritime Investments Jefferies, Ugo Salerno, CEO of Rina and John Wiik, CEO of the Norwegian Hull Club.

Other key subject areas covered during the day include the latest developments in Ship Finance, Insurance and aspects of Maritime Law and Arbitration.

Conference organiser Francesco Lauro says the confidence shown in the event by the local and international shipping community is evidence of the programme’s relevance to today’s markets.
