SCAFI Società di Navigazione S.p.A. (here and after SCAFI) had been founded in the 1950s by Salvatore Cafiero and today is a leading company in Italian shipping industry managing the tug services in the port of La Spezia, Savona and Gioia Tauro.

In 2011 SCAFI had looked forward to be an international group awarding the last tender held by Panama Ports Company (subsidiary of Hutchinson Port Holding) for the management of the tug service in Cristobal (Panama). Equipped with a fleet comprehending some of the largest and more modern tugboats ever deployed in this country, PTG can render its services not only in the Port of Cristobal, its operational base, but also on the Atlantic Coast of the Republic of Panamá.

More recently SCAFI has established together with Tunisian partners a company in Tunisia gaining the licence to operate tug’s services in Tunisian waters.

Moreover in the past years SCAFI played a major role in two of the greatest success histories of Italian ports: the development of the Port of Gioia Tauro, now the largest transhipment hub in the Mediterranean Sea, and the transformation of the Port of La Spezia from a regional to an international port.

The group operates in Italy through its three subsidiaries, Rimorchiatori Riuniti Spezzini (La Spezia), Con.Tug (Gioia Tauro, in partnership with the terminal operator Contship group) and Carmelo Noli (Savona-Vado), in Panama through its subsidiary, Panama Tugs Group Inc., and in Tunisia through Tug North Africa with over 20 modern ASD tugboats all certified under the highest IACS standard.

Carmelo Noli is certified under RINA: ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001;

Panama Tugs Group is certified under RINA: ISO 9001.

The SCAFI group is owned by Mrs Bruna Cafiero, President of the Board of Directors, and Mr Franco Visco, Vice President of the Board of Directors and CEO of the Italian subsidiary companies.
